For the 2009/2010 School Year Grades 1-11:

  • Pre-K and Kindergarten testing is by appointment and offered on an individual basis only.

Registration for all testing begins at 8:00 a.m, and testing begins at 9:00am. There is a $25 testing fee

Entrance Requirements

  • Providence St. Mel admissions test (See testing dates on Admissions Page)

  • Students must meet the general admissions requirement based upon Terra Nova percentiles on the first testing.

To Enroll

  • Kindergarten students must score at the 50th percentile on an individual assessment.

  • First grade students must score at or above the 50th percentile in all three areas tested.

  • Grades 2 through 5 students must score at or above the 50th percentile in 3 out of 4 possible areas.

  • Grades 6, 7, and 9 students must score in the 35th percentile in the three areas of reading, language and math, which they are tested.

  • Grades 8, 10, and 11 students must score in the 50th percentile in all areas tested.

  • Students may be accepted conditionally based on entrance exam scores, prior grades, and letter(s) of recommendation. All conditionally accepted students must attend the Third Semester program (summer school) and pass with a grade of C or better.

  • Conditional acceptance doesn't include 8th graders.

  • If a second testing is needed, the Third Semester Program (Summer School) is automatically required in the lowest tested area.

  • Students may take the entrance exam twice per academic year.

Transfer Students

  • All high school (10th and 11th grades) transfer students must pass the Terra Nova exam and are required to attend and successfully complete the Third Semester Program (Summer School) with the grade of C or better.

  • All high school (10th and 11th grades) students must submit their final transcript request to their former school no later than April 30th and have the transcripts forwarded to Providence St. Mel no later than June 30th.

  • All sophomore/junior transfers must meet with the principal and have their transcripts reviewed before full acceptance to Providence St. Mel can be made. All high school transfers must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Eighth Grade Shadow Days - "Knight for a Day"

  • See for yourself what Providence St. Mel is really like! We invite interested eighth grade students to spend a day at Providence St. Mel as a "Knight for a Day".

  • Shadow a current freshman, attend classes, meet teachers and students, have lunch in the cafeteria and experience a day in the life of a Providence St. Mel student.

    "Knight for a Day" or Shadow Day visits may be made by current eighth graders only. Shadow Days are available from late January through April. Shadow Days may not be available on select activities and/or exams days.

  • Interested students need prior permission from their grade school; PSM will provide a verification of attendance letter to present upon return.

  • Knight Shadows must follow the Providence St. Mel dress code (guidelines are available from Admissions).

  • Shadow Days need to be scheduled at least one week in advance. Call Admissions to arrange a day.
